Yesterday we started our time at the barrio in song as we waited for the community leader
to return to the school with a key. The medical coordinators met with the community
leaders from each barrio last Friday, yet they thought we would not be there because
January 21 is a religious holiday celebrating the Virgin Mary. Most government agencies,
schools, banks, and businesses were closed for the day, which probably added to the
confusion.

Roxanne, Cora (nurse practitioner and Solid Rock board member from Canada), our
local doctor sawabout 90 people, there were two procedures, several home visits, and
many people poor in health. The evening found many walking downtown to the cathedral
before supper while others rested or organized things for the next day.
